4 Essential Skincare Tips for Summer

Summer in our imagination is probably glowy, radiant tanned skin and sexy sun dresses. However, reality is never as pretty. Summer, along with all the enjoyment, brings a lot of irritation too.  If you don't take steps to prevent typical summer skin troubles in your skincare routine, hot weather, humidity, and additional sun exposure can lead to sweat-induced clogged pores, sunburns, and dark spots.

The ideal skincare routine will work for you year-round if you follow it consistently, but there are a few adjustments you can make to lessen the seasonal affects that summer can have on your skin.

1. Advance your SPF

Dermatologists agree that using effective UV protection is the most crucial element in any skincare regimen year-round, but it is more crucial in the summer when the days are longer and you will unavoidably get more sun-exposed.

SPF must be applied everyday on the areas that are exposed. It's especially crucial to reapply every two hours, or sooner if swimming or sweating. It's also important to apply enough sunscreen to ensure you get adequate protection. Apply one strip of sunscreen on each of your index and middle fingers, and that should be enough for your face. For your body, a shot glass amount is appropriate.

It is advised to use sunscreens with SPF above 50 and PA above ++++. More importantly, a water-resistant product is necessary as we sweat more in hot weather. We recommend Okame UV Shield Sunscreen that uses a Tinosorb S filter to protect your skin fully from UVA and UVB, plus a tone-up effect. It is formulated with Centella extract and Hyaluronic Acid to provide lasting hydration. The product contains no fragrance, Dimethicone, Paraben, and mineral oils.

2. Use light moisturizers

Although it feels damp in the summer, our skin still needs to be moisturized. However, since seasonal dryness isn't common in the summertime, you don't need a rich cream like the ones for winter. It is advisable to use light hyaluronic acid-based moisturizers to maintain hydration on your skin without feeling sticky.

We highly recommend Okame 1% Bakuchiol Super Cream. It contains Sacha Inchi oil and Squalane oil that deeply moisturize the skin. The light cream texture will leave your skin feeling refreshed and hydrated with no sticky residue. More importantly, Bakuchiol works as a natural Retinol will control excess oil, which is very problematic in summer, hence reading clogged pores and acne. Bakuchiol is also a good anti-oxidant that keeps your skin young and elastic, reducing the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.

3. Make sure your skincare products are non-comedogenic

The summer months can bring on acne due to clogged pores. Use non-comedogenic skincare and cosmetics to quickly stop sweat and oil from congealing in your pores. According to dermatologists, you should avoid deeply moisturizing or oily formulations during the summer.

To help keep pores clear, those with acne-prone and oily skin can incorporate ingredients such as salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, sulfur, or niacinamide into their routines.

4. Cleanse your face properly

Washing your face becomes more serious in summer as we sweat more. Improper washing can cause bacteria and acne, which then lead to breakouts. Therefore, remember to always double-cleanse your face with makeup removers and benzoyl peroxide/ salicylic acid-containing facial cleansers.

For your makeup, we recommend Okame Super Fruit Cleansing Balm. The product is made from natural ingredients such as sea buckthorn oil, grape-seed oil, chamomile, and white camellia. The balm texture effortlessly removes makeup while enhancing the skin’s protective layers. After being washed with warm water, the balm is totally removed, leaving no oil or sticky residue, hence no threats to your summer pores.

Enjoy your glowy summer!
